Like a bird with a smile too big for her face March 22, 2009

Name meanings have always been interesting and important to me. Growing up proud that Anna meant “Grace of God.”
Surprisingly, I did not carefully consider this angle when selecting names for the girls. Only recently I discovered that Ava means “like a bird.” I love it.

The princess and the pen March 22, 2009

Naptime is usually a struggle for us. Sammie’s growing out of the need for mid-day sleep and finds the 1-4pm hours very trying.
Lately she’s been waking up about an hour earlier than Ava. Miss Ava who could sleep all day. This has turned into a nice quiet time for Sammie and I to hang out, eat snacks and practice penmanship.
A couple days ago she surprised me by writing her name by herself. I was taken aback because we rarely if ever practice this and she certainly didn’t learn it at her pre-school which has the teaching philosophy of “learning through play.”
Guess play works.

Most people say Ava looks just like her Dad.
I’d have to agree, but the glasses add a new twist.avas-glasses

Sammie has recently mastered the art of “The Wink.”
Grammy was joking that she should try this on Grampy some night at the dinner table.
She’s really good. We know, Grammy knows, Billy knows.sammies-wink2

In between finishing her BA magna cum laude and applying to grad school my Mom was able to spend a couple weeks with us.
During her visit we were cooked for, cleaned after and generally loved only as a Mother can.grammys-visit
